George Abbot teaching school is delighted to be appointed as Regional Lead school for Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST) in the South-East and South London region.
TSST Covid-19: Department for Education Update for Local Lead Schools
Due to the current impact of Covid-19 and the disruption caused to schools, ministers have agreed that TSST should continue in its current form until March 2021. Until that time George Abbot will continue in its role as Regional Lead School for South-East England and South London, to minimise any further disruption.
Existing Local Lead Schools can continue to recruit to their existing budget allocations approved for 2019/20 until March 2021. The DfE will continue work to develop a new offer of support for non-specialists from April 2021.
Local Lead Schools are advised to organise “virtual” sessions where appropriate, and provide participants with the required information to access all existing and new (if replacing face-to-face support) online support. Under the circumstances the DfE have waived the 30-hours face-to-face teaching requirement to enable training to continue virtually.
The purpose of TSST is to improve the subject knowledge of non-specialist and returning teachers in the following subjects:
- Secondary mathematics
- Core mathematics
- Secondary Physics
- Secondary MFL: French
- Secondary MFL: Spanish
- Secondary MFL: Mandarin
The training is therefore available to those who are already teaching, or have a firm intention to teach a TSST subject in a secondary school or sixth form college in the near future.
We are able to apply our own knowledge and expertise having successfully run secondary TSST programmes for the past four years which has resulted in the training of over 100 non-specialist maths, physics and MFL teachers.
