British science week 2020 is running through from 6th March to 15th March.  Surrey SLP are running two sessions concentrating on exciting and inspirational activities to run at your school to celebrate science and increase interest in the subject.  The  theme this year is “Our Diverse Planet”

Running a STEM Club – Invitation only

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY

STEM Learning have given the Surrey Science Learning partnership seven kits to pass on to schools containing fabulous resources including a tablet to run activities via a STEM club.  This twilight session will run through how to use the kits.  Each school participating will be able to take the kits back to school with them after the training session.

This session is full but please contact us if you would be interested in participating in future should the opportunity arise again.

Physics for non-specialists – Day 2 (Energy and Radiation)

If you have been asked to teach physics and it is outside your specialist area, this course is for you.

It has been developed with the Institute of Physics and throughout the course we will develop your understanding of the principles of physics and the skills and strategies needed to teach the subject effectively and improve student motivation and attainment. This, in turn, will increase take-up of physics at GCSE, A level and beyond.

Teacher Assessment in Primary Science

Using the TAPS focussed assessment approach.  We will explore how to develop active pupil involvement and responsive teaching. We will use moderation for professional learning and consider how to develop a whole school shared understanding of assessment and progression in primary science.

Glass Bending

SECONDARY TECHNICIANS

In collaboration with SLS Select Education and SciLabware (glass manufacturers), the Surrey Science Learning Partnership are delighted to be able to offer this Glass Bending course drawing upon the expertise of CLEAPPS.  This will be an interactive workshop, where you will be able to further your knowledge on the properties of glass and then participate in practical sessions.  Glass bending expert Chris Peel will be offering demonstrations.
