George Abbot Teaching School & the NFER ‘Enquiring Teachers Programme’
George Abbot Teaching School support a range of colleagues in becoming school-based researchers as part of the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) ‘Enquiring Teachers Programme’.
The spirit of this research initiative is one of collaboration and partnership between professional educators. For a third year, we are working in collaboration with the Royal Grammar School, Guildford and St John’s School, Leatherhead to engage in this CPD programme. The ‘Enquiring Teachers Programme’is designed to give teachers the opportunity to explore an aspect of teaching and learning that will have a positive impact on their school.
We are currently funding 4 projects which are exploring the following themes:
- Explore effective practice(s) to support the needs of SEND pupils/students
- Explore effective practice(s) to support the needs of the most able
- Explore how to close the vocabulary gap in the classroom and to improve the oracy skills of 16-18 year old students
- Explore effective approaches to high quality reading instruction to enhance reading skills
The NFER provides the teachers within each project, regular coaching support around research principles and support with research methodology.
As we are in the third year of the programme, it is clear that such work is bringing about significant developments in a number of schools through the skills and endeavour of those who have engaged with this work.
